Penedo is located in the municipality of Itatiaia, in the south of the state of Rio de Janeiro and close to the border with São Paulo. The only Finnish colony in the country, it is a neighborhood surrounded by natural beauty and which relies on tourism as its main source of income.
The history of Finnish colonization is rediscovered at the Eva Hilden Museum, which has a collection of over a thousand items that tell the story of the district's first residents and provides information about ancient Finnish traditions and modern Finland.
In addition to its charming center, Penedo is surrounded by lush nature with many natural attractions, such as Pico do Penedinho, on the same street as Suítes do Reino, accessed by a trail of about 30 minutes, which offers a panoramic view of Penedo, Itatiaia and Resende.
You can also explore the various waterfalls formed by the Ribeirão das Pedras – Três Bacias, Cachoeira de Deus and Três Cachoeiras – or natural pools such as Poço das Esmeraldas, all with crystal clear waters and surrounded by beautiful scenery.
